Between The Lines:Making An Inference
"90% of the Avalanches that kill people are triggered by the victims or someone in their party"
According to the article, Avalanches usually occur when cracks from loud noises, or harmful movement, form. These cracks can travel across mountain slopes, causing a huge eruption to slide its way downhill, uncontrolled. What causes these terrible disasters? giant vehicles, such as snowmobiles, and some times, skiers and snowboarders(due to human activity).
The information I've uncovered, from outside of the article, tells me that Avalanches can either be triggered from nature, or result from human interactions/activity. These eruptions, typically occur in high mountains.
Just Talk About It
1. a) Rock slide: A landslide of rocks
Landslide: The downward falling or sliding of a mass of solid
b) Avalanches are similar to Rock slides and Landslides because, all of them carry a weight while they travel downhill from a mountain, or surface, and they are all caused from ground movement. Avalanches are different from Landslides and Rock slides because, instead of resulting from pressure in an uncomfortable area, like Landslides and Rock slides, Avalanches are triggered from large cracks in snowy mountains.
2. Avalanches mainly occur in B.C. and Alberta because, there is a wide range of snowy mountains, which is where Avalanches occur.
3. When I searched avaler, one of the definitions I got was: to take in eagerly. This relates to an Avalanche because, Avalanches are fast moving erruptions and they do take in everything with great speed.
